The All American History

Connecticut’s Largest and Most Respected Custom Pool Contractor

As an offshoot of a family construction company, All American Custom Pools and Spas was originally started in 1977 as a pool renovation and repair company. With a rich family tradition of stone masonry that traces back generations to Italy, the Romano family approached every project with precision and craftsmanship, guided by an indelible sense of pride in their work. Today, All American Custom Pools and Spas is one of the largest and most respected names in the business. We didn’t start out to be the biggest, just the best. And that meant securing the finest craftsman, designers, and technicians available to provide consistent quality and value to all of our customers. We’ve gone from a 500 square foot warehouse and 2 trucks to a beautiful state of the art showroom/warehouse/office facility, and more than 60 employees and 40 vehicles- but our commitment to the craft still remains, guiding the design, construction, renovation and maintenance of every pool we’re entrusted with.

Meet Our President

johnromanoJohn C. Romano is president and founder of All American Custom Pools and Spas, and a 40 year veteran of the swimming pool industry. As a third generation Sicilian American with roots in fine stone masonry, a craft passed down through generations of the Romano family.

In 1969, John started a swimming pool division in his father’s general contracting/masonry firm after recognizing a gap in the market for quality pool repair and renovation experts. In 1977, he and his partner, Kris Romano, broke away from the family company to start a business of their own, and All American Custom Pools and Spas was born. While they initially focused on pool renovation, they expanded their services in 1979 to include new pool construction and maintenance. With his masonry and contracting background, this seemed like a natural transition to John, and the company saw rapid growth.

In addition to growing his own pool business, John has been instrumental in the training and development of other pool professionals through his dedicated work with the Connecticut Spa and Pool Association (CONSPA), the North East Spa and Pool Association (NESPA), the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals (APSP), the National Builders Council, and the National Plasterers Council. He has also served on several national, regional and state task forces and committees, working to ensure the safety of consumers through proper industry regulation and was instrumental in the state of Connecticut’s decision to require licensing for pool builders and service people. John is a strong advocate of industry training and education, and helped to write the prestigious APSP Builder’s Manual which is now consider “The Bible” for pool and spa builder across the country.
